Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has assigned the Intelligence Bureau (Pakistan) the task of monitoring the implementation of the government’s nationwide austerity campaign aimed at reducing public sector spending.

According to an official notification, the Intelligence Bureau will oversee the implementation of cost-cutting measures across federal ministries, divisions, and autonomous government institutions.

The directive also extends to the secretariats of the National Assembly of Pakistan and the Senate of Pakistan, where compliance with the austerity policy will also be reviewed.

Under the new instructions, the Intelligence Bureau will submit weekly reports on the progress of the austerity campaign to the prime minister and the relevant committee.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed all government institutions to ensure 100 percent implementation of the national austerity campaign.

Earlier, while chairing a review meeting on measures for public relief, the prime minister said that economic stability and relief for citizens remain the government’s top priorities.

He added that due to timely government decisions, the country currently has an adequate supply of petroleum products, while additional measures are being considered to promote national savings and financial discipline.
